Listening to "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" in the car
I have a lot of time in the car, with the school commute, so I'm listening to Barbara Kingsolver's "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle". It's interesting to hear her talk about the drought in the South; it's a tough time here. We are saving the cold water that runs out of the shower before it warms up, and using it to water the bushes in the front of the house. It's astonishing to see how much water we are wasting.

Walt Whitman at the Metro
My son and I went to the Dupont Circle Metro stop on Sunday, and there was a wonderful prose quote from Walt Whitman engraved on the stone walls of the escalator. It has to do with his service in Civil War hospitals.
I can't find the exact quote online (I didn't write it down).
There was a terrific story about Walt Whitman in Best American Short Stories one year, called "Every Night for a Thousand Years".
